About 'World War Knits'

I started knitting (and crocheting) in 2003 and began selling online in 2010. In early 2013, a WWI reenactor contacted me on my StarlightSarah website (where I make and sell modern knits and jewelry) and asked if I would knit some WWI items. He had the patterns and sent them to me. I really enjoyed knitting these items; I felt like I was reliving a piece of history.

I continued to collect both WWI and WWII knit and crochet patterns. More and more people started contacting me to make these items for them for their reenacting and living history groups. The same person that got me started knitting these patterns suggested I create a separate website for them and another of my regular customers encouraged me to do so.

That is how this website was started. Please feel free to browse around and contact me with questions, comments, or requests.

All of the items I make are handmade by me. As of early 2016, I have started using a vintage, non-electric, hand operated knitting machine for some items. The rest of the items still have to be made by hand knitting needles. I use top-quality wool and materials. All of these items are made from the original WWI and WWII patterns or copied from an original photo when there was no pattern available. Special care is taken to use pure wool (or cotton) and other items specific to the era, such as vintage and antique buttons.
